Take the Biofuel Pledge

"If the BioTruck team can make it all the way to Timbuktu on Biodiesel, I pledge that my next tank will be Biofuel."

Chocolate fuelled Carbon-Negative Expedition

To Timbuktu Departs UK on 23 rd of November.

The BioTruck team will be departing from the UK on Friday the 23 rd from Poole harbour for the 4500mile expedition to Timbuktu . The journey will be powered entirely on biodiesel made from waste chocolate in a unique process pioneered by Ecotec.

The sweet smelling diesel has been assessed by independent experts at CarbonAided who state it's manufacture and use emits just a tenth of the carbon footprint of fossil diesel.

The expedition team, (Andy Pag 34 from London and John Grimshaw 39 from Poole ) aim to encourage UK motorist to fill up on biofuels. “If we use biodiesel to get to Timbuktu with a standard engine, there's no reason why people in the UK can't use it for their commute or school run.” said Pag.

Confusion surrounding biofuels has lead to a backlash as it was revealed that some biofuels have a worse carbon footprint than their fossil counterparts, but recycling techniques and developing technology means biofuels can be made in such a way that they benefit the environment and the chocolate diesel is a great example of this. Unfortunately motorists filling up on biofuel currently have no way of knowing what they are buying.

The expedition will be delivering a biodiesel processing unit to MFC, a Malian charity, which will allow biodiesel to be produced locally form sustainable sources, and the carbon savings from the Malian fuel will help to make this expedition Carbon-Negative, a world first! saving 15 tonnes of carbon emissions in the first year alone.

Press and expedition supporters are invited to see the fully loaded truck for the first time and wave the team off at Poole ferry port between 11am and 1pm on Friday the 23 rd of November. Also attending will be spokespeople from Ecotec and CarbonAided.

For port security, press MUST contact Gwyn Cherriman in advance with names, vehicle registration and the equipment they intend to bring or they will not be admitted. (02392 892221 or Gwyn.Cherriman@brittanyferries.com)
